Presentation Roles and My Role

We split the presentation up so that one person would be in charge of each section that they have been doing the most the past few weeks.

That person would also have to write bullet points or a mini script for Mel and Leon to read when they present as although not all of us are presenting, it will be a joint effort, and the distribution of work will be even.
  • Questionnaire and Results - Millie
  • Other Events/Secondary Research - Natalie
  • Why LS6? - Leon
  • Location - Mehroosa
  • Demographics - Charlotte
  • Costs - Mel
  • Plan of Action - Shamita
  • Poster mock ups - Rowan
My Role
As I was the one focusing on secondary research as my skillset lies in analysing contextual, conceptual and practical ideas, I was in charge of the 'other research' slide. This would be the slide with the most talking as there were three points I needed to write for the presenters to hit:
  1. Why we researched into other projects (Feedback from Orlando to mention this in presentation and not pretend this hasn't been done in ways before)
  2. The context of it (including societal and historical issues)
  3. What we learnt from this (how this dictated how we would make our project successful)
I chose to highlight only Colour Hyde Park Project, and Hyde Park Unity Day as these are most well known and would be easier to clearly communicate to the audience whereas HMO Lobby is very statistical, and may become overbearing with the Demographics slide that Charlotte is doing.

Other Research Explanation:
It was important for us to research into the other projects that have happened around Hyde Park as the issues of students in these local areas has been going on for awhile. From this research, we got to understand what worked and what didn’t, and how to approach our project more effectively.

Colour Hyde Park Project was a successful project in being inclusive to the local community by working with them in workshops prior to the murals being painted. The murals were to create a sense of pride and unity for the community living there. This inspired our focus on working directly with the local community from university students to families as it’s proven to address the issues more effectively. (Questionnaire and fair.)

Hyde Park Unity Day aims to bring students and locals together in response to the 90s riots however there’s been responses from the organiser and the locals especially about how the idea is nice but it doesn’t seem to work effectively in reaching the whole community. This is because they can’t promote the event outside of LS6 or promote it until right close to the event date due to council restrictions as they believe it represents a negative cause. It’s also not considered “far-reaching” in terms of providing a solution to the **divide as it’s just a one day event. Our approach will be focusing on LS6 as it represents this **divide, but the one day event will become a campaign to consistently promote the idea of unity, and respect throughout the community

Script:
  • Colour Hyde Park was a project to create a sense of pride and unity in the Hyde Park Area by having beautiful murals painted.
  • This project was successful because they worked closely with the local community in workshops.
  • This is why we chose to work close to the target audience through questionnaires to identify the issues we need to focus on.
  • Hyde Park Unity Day is a one day event that aims to bring students and locals together in response to the 90’s riots.
  • Based on research, we found that the community thinks it’s a good idea but doesn’t work long term as it’s only one day.
  • That’s why we will progress into a campaign.
  • (90’s riots were a reaction by the local community to the feeling of divide and the heavy police presence in the area due to crime from younger demographics.)
