Final Year Students Creative Reports


  • Think of an idea - why you chose the practitioner - what they represent - how this translates into the report. e.g James looked at a studio in London and Leeds and his report, "IS IT GRIM UP NORTH?" is about why you shouldn't move to London to work in a studio. 
  • He chose to explore his options between staying in Leeds or moving to London.
  • Put context as to why he's doing these interviews, and introduced them. Talked about their design practice and style.
  • Included his thoughts after.
  • Did it all in one day - inDesign file. Keep it simple.


  • His goal was to justify his interest in just black and white design. 
  • Wishes he emailed more and sent it to them.
  • Wanted to ask designers about these specific design trends, not just professional development.
  • Take the time to make it nice and send it back to them.
  • Good opportunity to make formal connections with designers.
  • Bad at time management so wanted to interview people about how to manage time, in a series of creative reports.
  • Interviewed three different people.
  • Interviewing in person was a lot better than emailing as she felt she got a lot more out of it, but also forgot things, and harder to transcribe.
  • E-mails suited for anxious people and felt she got more as it was organised and worded.
  • Don't be worried about changing your plan!
Orlando may have said this creative report doesn't need to be a hyper-produced outcome, as it's more about the outcome and what you got from the interview. But if you want to do that and have the time, it's great but it's not essential.
  • She's interested in her cross-collaboration, cross-disciplinary, cross-cultural approaches.
  • She did a more production heavy outcome - not essential but a bonus.
  • Follow up - after you've done it thank them for their time and connect with their social media. Show the Creative Report.
  • Her outcome was all done in one digital print session - focused on the idea on travel as that was the practitioner's style and produced many things to do with travel.
  • Beneficial to ask the designer things that will help you with what you doubt in your practice.
