PPP 1
Colours may vary - type tuesday 27th at Hyde Park Picture House
- being blogging things you are interested in / see as part of PPP. (OUGD402) 2 weeks.
- Ali Hanson - have to research them today. going to interview them on Thursday via Skype.
- Blog things that you look at for inspiration / things to help you research design. Instagram, behance, online magazines*, AIGA or itsnicethat - we can’t just be looking at images we need to know what it’s about (their research/the point of it). Podcast called Scratching The Surface.
Part 1:
- You have to research the work of the design practice and organise it into 5 key themes. (These five themes should reflect the key ideas that run throughout their work)
- Background, education, use of materials, creative process, methodology, inspiration, collaborations, project management, promoting work, clients, books, music, films, aesthetic, theory. - HOW does this feed into their practice?
- e.g Education : what was a project you did in university that might’ve influenced what you’re doing now?
- e.g Education : is there any project you look back on and wish you did differently/ more of?
- Need to develop TEN Questions. first q is What film would you recommend to an aspiring graphic designer?
- Complete interview needs to be blogged + indepth practice/researched blogged.
Part 2:
- Design a poster for the film they recommended.
- A0 in size.
- Only print using a photocopier.
- No stock images from the film. (If photos from the film are used it needs to be processed in an interesting way (photographed from screen, collaged, drawn over…)
- How can we make this film inventive/unconventional? - reflect the film through the physical poster as well. e.g Each member of group make something and put it together. is it interactive? (making things move..)
- Could be based on what the designer has said about the film / the time he watched the film.
Part 3:
- Design and curate a screening event for your chosen film. The screenings will take place at the end of the second week. needs to reflect the moods/themes within the film.
- Must attend and evaluate atleast three other screenings.
- This must include: the name of the film, consistent branding. social media publicity, documentation of event, intervention/workshop that will take place during screening.
- should photograph it, document how people interact with it,
- 5 elements of cinema: sound, screen, projection, audience, site/space.
- 8 elements of film: character, plot, conflict, resolution, structure, scenes, dialogue, visuals.
- Make notes under these headings when watching the film. (Is there a famous scene? how are the visuals made? is the language specific?)
Interview, Poster, Screening Design.
Need to collect alot of materials related to the film - imagery, quotes, numbers/rules, a whole alphabet of a typeface, themes in the film, characters, notable scenes, colour palette from film, keywords, symbols … Collage for poster workshop tomorrow!.
