Workshop Brief
Design a storefront for a brand considering brand, product, and benefit.
Brand- Who buys the brand?
- What's the colour palette?
- Are they trendy or traditional?
- Is there visual language, bold, subtle, graphic or... ?
Product
- What's it used for?
- What's it made from?
- When/where is it used?
Benefit
- Why is this benefit good, what does it enable?
- How can I make this feel exciting/interesting?
- How can I communicate this message?
Response
Brand : Lush
- Usually targeted at females but not exclusively
- Teenagers to young adults
- Ethically sourced, vegan/vegetarian, against animal cruelty and testing
- Fair trade, handmade
- Charity pots and products donated
- "naked" packaging - honesty/true representation
- Colour scheme is black and white but popular bath bomb is "galaxy" themed - blues, pinks, purples
- Trendy
- Casual language, easy, personal
Product : Bath Bombs
- Used for "me time"
- Relaxation
- Gifts
- Made of sodium bicarbonate and natural oils.
- Baths
Benefit : To show how amazing/beautiful they look when put in the bath
- Skin care
- Visual aesthetics
- Feel good
- Interactive
Ideas
- A bath bomb placed on a clear podium in a clear bathtub. A shower head would pour over it allowing it to dissolve into the bath tub. (Really good and direct way of showing how they look in a bath tub but too literal)
- Bath bomb placed in wall with acrylic pour paint all around conveying an extension of the bath bomb. (Pour paint is a good visual representation of bath bombs and is artistic/handmade - representing the brand.)
- Consumers would pick up paintballs filled with multiple colours and throw them at a drawing of a bath or just a plain wall. (Interactive and handmade represents brand)
- Tubes of water would dissolve the bath bomb and would be arranged so that it would be a gradient. Bubble machine as well. People would be able to walk around it. (Interactive and direct representation of bath bombs in not an obvious way - very aesthetically pleasing and would be able to smell the bath bomb which is also a USP. Photo op)
- Animal figures/sculptures in the bath (Cruelty free and bath bomb representation. Artistic and attractive to audience.)
- Whole storefront is a large water tank with bath bombs being propelled around and dissolving. (Visually pleasing and representative)
- Fish tank in centre of storefront with bath bombs propelling and dissolving quickly and foaming over tank so that store front is filled with the foam. (Representative without being in a bathtub. Visually pleasing. Photo op.)
Final Idea
We chose to go with the idea of tubes showcasing the bath bombs in water as it has interactive elements and still showcases them in water but not obviously which answers the brief. It's more interesting however as it has the element of scent which is a big selling point for lush. We displayed this in a 3D manner as it's more representative and conveys the idea of its interactivity more effectively than a 2D drawing.
Feedback
- Showing process is a really nice idea.
- How long would it last? Would they have to be changed often?
- Like the colours very eye catching and different.
- Last two coloured poles are very similar.
- I really like how the process can be shown when you use the product.
- Can the tubes be spun? So people can mix the colours.
- Love the colourful bath bomb idea in tubes and maybe have places in the window where you can go up and smell.
- Sensory experience.
