Rowan's
The first ideas we had for logos and branding were made by Rowan. We focused on wanting it to be friendly and approachable, which is why all letterforms were based on a circle such as with Futura, and also wanted to include the use of colour to make the logo overall more visually stimulating, eyecatching and fun. We chose green as it's a neutral colour that also has more positive connotations, and relates to the idea of an environment/location, especially Hyde Park.
Overall the group felt that the font, shapes and colour were too corporate and didn't reflect the inclusivity of children/family as well. The issue that arose from a logo that was too corporate is that it may not be visually attractive enough to the audience - would students especially want to engage with something that seemed too serious?
Shamita's
Based off our general responses to Rowan's logotype, Shamita created typefaces that are more bespoke, playful and friendlier. The initial idea using primary colours was way too specific to children only, and once again we dealt with the issue of it needing to be inclusive of all demographics. The green version was better, but an issue arose where we wondered if people would take the project seriously with a very playful logotype.
Leon's
Leon explored a range of approaches to the logotype as a way of finding the balance between representing the project, being professional while also being playful and inclusive. These concepts are attempts at communicating the friendly, energetic community focus of our brand whilst also relating to the LS6 area’s physical appearance - such as alluding to the graffiti, brickwork and foliage. The shape and formats of street signs are also explored to emphasise the importance of the location to the brand, as well as some experiments with edited satellite maps of the area to play with the same concept, but perhaps these are too direct. The type choices are purposefully rounded and thick weighted to come across as fun and not too serious.
