Studio Brief 2 - Life's A Pitch

Brief: Working in teams to produce ideas and concepts for a creative opportunity in Leeds. This could be an event or an exhibition, but "creative opportunity" can be more than that as those are common choices. Think outside of the box about what a creative opportunity can be - podcasts, reading groups, walking tour, series of talks, screenings, workshops, performance with participation, public space, project room where things are going over a series of time, a pop up event etc. Have this potentially be something that can continue to be developed outside of university.
This needs to address the local and wider community - this isn't just for design students.
  • This is an opportunity to contribute to the community.
  • Work collaboratively to produce a 10 minute presentation pitch to deliver to the class and tutors.
  • Presentation must be exciting, engaging, get audience on board.
  • Pitches will be judged and the successful concepts/pitches will be helped by the Graphic Design compartment to have it come to life.
Need to consider:
  • Budget - how much does it cost to rent 50 chairs, how much does it cost to buy the supplies
  • Venue - where's an appropriate space (how much does it cost to rent this space?)
  • Location - where's it going to be? Needs to be accessible. If it's in Hyde Park you'd probably get more turn out from students etc.
  • Logistics
  • Materials - food, drink, supplies
  • Technology - are there going to be projectors? will there be tickets and ways of scanning tickets?
  • Branding - has to have a visual identity
  • Marketing - how would you market this, how would you get attention?
The more feasible and realistic the pitch/plan is, the more likely the department will help it come to life and the better it will be.

Deliverables:
  • A pitch presentation deck performed by the whole group, including a short Q&A. Consider the form of the presentation - if you're producing a podcast it should be a podcast.
  • An uploaded copy of the presentation with supporting visual materials.
  • Minimum of 6 x A3 design boards - digital. *the design boards are done with your groups.
  • PPP blog.
Task:
Based on the briefing, think about, consider 'what do we think about Leeds and what do we think is missing from Leeds?'
  • Print Fair - either a place to sell your prints or a community workshop - or both
  • a USP for connecting musicians and designers - networking.
  • A stall in Kirkgate market to sell/engage local community with contemporary design.
