As Leah is quite active on instagram, I was considering sending her a direct message however as she has a business profile and therefore has her email linked, I assumed it would be more preferable for me to email her about graphic design related inquiries and it would probably be more comfortable for her to reply through email. In the email, I still gave her the option for this to be taken to instagram, or whatever platform.
Dear Leah Maldonado,
Hey! I'm a second year Graphic Design student at Leeds Arts University and I was wondering if you would be okay with letting me interview you for my creative report? The interview could just be over email, social media or whatever is most comfortable for you.
The project is to pick a designer that inspires me and I really look up to your work and approach to design and it would be amazing to make this creative report on your design practice.
Thank you,
Natalie Salman
For both Fisk Projects and Superkolor studios, I kept the email short and friendly as their websites, social media and language in general seem friendly. However, I made them slightly more serious and professional than when contacting Leah Maldonado, as they're studios rather than a singular designer, and I wanted to make a professional impression on whoever receives the email, as this may make them more inclined to pass it on.
Dear Suporkolor,
Hello, I'm a second year Graphic Design student at Leeds Arts University and I was wondering if you would be okay with replying to some interview questions for my creative report? These could be sent over email, social media or could be over a Skype call if you are more comfortable with that.
The project is to pick a design practitioner or studio that inspires me and I've been constantly inspired by the work your studio produces. It would be amazing to produce a Creative Report on your work and practice!
Thank you and kind regards,
Natalie Salman

I got an almost immediate reply from Leah Maldonado which is great as she is my chosen practitioner and I no longer feel completely behind on the project. Her reply was friendly and simple, so I am happy I approached with a friendly tone as well. Her email also included an emoji, and not many formal nuances which makes me think during the interview, I should keep it quite friendly as well as professional. She also made no comment as to what platform would be best for the interview, so I assume remaining on email would be best.
I currently have no reply from Fisk projects or Superkolor however it's not been a day and it's the holidays. If they reply, I may still ask a few questions for my own personal practice.
