Commission
My friend in L6 Viscom was approached by a friend's dad who was starting a new tech/sports business called "QSX" and he asked if I wanted to join him in creating logotypes as he's not experienced in illustrator to split the £500 commission. I agreed as this would be my first paid commission, and it would be out my comfort zone to be creating a logotype for a professional.
The client asked for a bespoke typeface that explored both vintage and glitchy connotations as he was combining his aesthetic with his technology website. I created the following 16 as a response, and labelled them so that he would be able to select which was his favourite, and continue developing it.
In the end he had changed his mind about wanting a bespoke typeface, and instead chose my friend's logotype using a standardised typeface with cutouts. However as my friend created this on logotype, it was my job to then make this a vector as non-vector logotypes would not be functional enough and risk becoming pixelated. Instead of retyping and applying the shapes, I redrew the logo as adjusting it to fit the exact dimensions the client had requested was difficult with just typing it out.The client asked for an outline of green, and gave us the two specific RGB swatches he liked after we had sent him a few we found appropriate.
I then applied his requests to his chosen logotype in different strokes, and to each swatch to then finalise his chosen logotype.
Final Logotype
The client requested to have both versions of the logotype - the all black version and the version he prefers as his final logotype for the website.
Evaluation
This commission was an interesting and valuable experience as I learnt how it's all about what the client wants as I didn't agree with his design choices, and offered some knowledge, however in the end it's their decision.
