Studio Brief 1 - Creative Report
  • Select and investigate a contemporary design practitioner/studio/organisation in order to produce a report based on their background, everyday practice, studio culture and their position in the industry.
  • The report should utilise material drawn from at least one interview with a spokesperson from your selected practitioner/studio/organisation that you have chosen.
  • Undertake research and investigate the design practitioners and the activities in the creative industry that you find interesting and relevant to your personal practice - how do they run their studio, how does this field work, what does their job involve, how does this relate to me
  • Research multiple designers and the creative industry to figure out what fields you are interested in.
  • This could include small studios, a large agency, individual freelancer, design festivals, media outlets, start-up businesses, meseum/gallery, blogger, social media, etc.
*

  • If the creative practitioner/studio/organisation are significantly older then some of the deliverables may not be relevant to contemporary design.
  • The design format of the publication should reflect the content and the subject matter e.g a PDF, website, digital publication, movie, diary, vlog, flag, presentation, book etc or if you're looking into a field that specialises in specific paper stock or printing processes the report could be printed in that way.
  • This isn't about production values however the outcome should still be professional.
Deliverables: Creative Report Publication and blog (SB1)

Studio Brief 2 - Life's A Pitch
  • Working in a group, we will need to produce ideas/concepts for an event, exhibition or creative opportunity in Leeds.
  • This event needs to be innovative and address the local community and the wider creative community.
  • Will need to deliver a 10 minute pitch presentation to the class and these pitches will be judged and may be selected for further development.
  • This event could be an exhibition, series of talks, podcast, workshop, screening, performance, public space, project room, pop up, reading group etc.
  • Need to consider budget, venue, location, logistics, materials, technology, branding and marketing.
Studio Brief 3 - Personal Presentations

  • Produce and present a 5-7 minute presentation that communicates a reflective summary of your experiences as a designer on the course so far.
  • Should reflect who I am as a learner and designer, and how my experiences since first year have informed my current aims and ambitions.
  • Identify creative concerns, personal aims and professional ambitions that I want to explore over summer and Level 6.
  • The presentation design needs to reflect my personal style.
  • Could be a slideshow, pecha kucha 20x20, video, moving image, storytelling, etc.
To do for next week
  • Begin to investigate who I am interested in - designers, studios, practitioners - who do I plan to research?
  • What kind of work do they do?
  • What information do I want to find out/focus on?
  • Why am I interested in these?
  • Where are they based and what type of workplace/studio?
