Typeface Idea and Development

This typeface follows a similar idea in which I use the shapes of my street signs in fixed ratios however follows a more strict rule to create a more consistent typeface that may be more legible. The rule is that each typeface had to use a circle and triangle atleast once, and that it would experiment with negative space.
Instead of block letters with no counters, this typeface experiments with thinner strokes that convey parts of the shape while emphasising its negative space.
Overall the typeface too presents a quirky personality, however it is more serious in tone as it references more traditional typefaces which is interesting as it approaches traditional styles as Transport does however produces a much more distinct result.

The typeface features extremely curved elements such as the arm of the uppercase “E” and “F”, and the overlapping bowls of the uppercase “B”. The cap-height and x-height varies due to the lack of a grid structure used which represents the idea of moving away from confinements as with street signs.  Nearly all of the glyphs feature a slant which is helpful in guiding the viewer’s eyes across the text however the glyphs that are not at a slant create a disruption that represents the disruption in direction I am creating in this project.
